My country needs Playgrounds please!!

I realised another great thing about this country - Its Play Grounds...just beside my office is the Vernon Hills High School, and yea they have so many play grounds, one for each game and to be honest I was jealous at first and then started admiring it.

I stretched my imagination a bit, and thought about what all things I use in my daily course of work - namely team work, decision making, Leadership, the Spirit to win, complete and compete with the schedules and deliver... and then I got to the question - How many of these did my teachers and books teach me during my school days?? The answer is none.

  • I learnt to take a practical approach towards life when i learnt to walk to a bad umpiring decision in cricket.
  • I learnt team work when i used to run along with another fielder to help throw the ball quickly, or when i ran to the back up position to make sure i am in right position to stop over throws for the team.
  • I understood commitment when I learnt to trust my partners decision for a 2ND run...or a tight single.
  • I learnt to fight on every time i saw the runs required against the balls available.
Sport taught me all that mattered, not my books not my teachers and in India, we care a damn about sports. We just have a building for a school most of the times, no play grounds, no facilities, one reason probably why we had a world chess champion, but we never won anything worthwhile in any team game.
Lets give sport its due, lets bend it like beckham or drive it like Dravid :)

hmmm.........an interesting point to make, but i do not agree with ur premise that you dont learn anything worthwhile thru classes and books. The use for your skills only come into picture when u have the very basic qualification, which is got by studies alone. when u dont have this basic qualification, what use are the other skills to you? the very fact that you are able to put forth ur ideas in ur blog are because u were educated, again on books!!!
